The highly anticipated 2010 Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be held at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday April 24 as part of the elite line-up of races making up the sensational Sydney Cup Day.
As the final race meeting of the prestigious Sydney Autumn Carnival, the day is sure to draw a bumper crowd full of spectators and eager punters wanting to make the most of the season’s end.
The 2010 Queen Elizabeth Stakes is one of an incredible four Group 1 features at the meeting – the others being the Sydney Cup, All Aged Stakes and the Champagne Stakes.
This year the Queen Elizabeth Stakes is worth $350, 000 with the winner taking home $210, 000 for their connections.
The in-form Vosne Romanee is expected to be nominated for the 2010 Queen Elizabeth Stakes following their impressive win in the Zabeel Classic (2000m). Trained by Jeff Lynds, the seven-year-old gelding will first run in the New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie before heading to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The Chris Waller-trained Expressway Stakes winner Rangirangdoo is a possible Queen Elizabeth Stakes nominee
Another possible Queen Elizabeth Stakes nominee is the Chris Waller-trained Rangirangdoo. The recent Expressway Stakes winner and second placegetter in the Apollo Stakes is first being aimed at the Doncaster Handicap on April 17, but a Queen Elizabeth Stakes run the following week on April 24 is still an option.
Nominations for the 2010 Queen Elizabeth Stakes close at 11:00am on Monday April 19. Weights will then be announced the following day at 4:00pm. On Wednesday April 21 the final field of acceptances will be announced and published here.
