Champion More Joyous Wins 2012 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

April 28th, 2012

Glamour mare More Joyous has again shown her class, winning the Group 1 2012 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick today.

It was a remarkable victory by the More Than Ready mare who was backing up just seven days after winning the Doncaster Mile.

With the all star field happy to sit back, jockey Nash Rawiller took the More Than Ready mare to the lead early and she stayed there for the rest of the race.

By the half way mark she had a two-length lead and with her rivals not willing to come with her, by the time they reached the straight it was too late with the champion five-year-old galloping away to win by 2.5 lengths.

Well-known Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse was full of her usual praise for Rawiller and the superstar mare.

“How about the way he rode her, I didn’t tell him anything. He just decided, how am I going to win this race? Something sort of clicked in his mind, they’ll all sit back,” Waterhouse said.

“Question mark, could she run the distance? Haha. Could she run the distance? She just annihilated them.

“The further she went the more she came away.”

It was More Joyous’ fourth consecutive victory and takes her remarkable resume to 19 wins from 26 starts.

Peter Moody-gelding Manighar ended his successful autumn with a runner-up finish while Secret Admirer finished third.
