Currently featuring as pre-post favourite in betting markets for the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House will jump from the ideal barrier 5 at Royal Randwick this weekend.

Unable to figure in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 8th, the Street Cry gelding quickly returned to competitive form; finishing an unlucky second in both the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) most recently.

Having left from barrier 5 in the Listed Parramatta Cup, Carlton House is more than a chance of going one better in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Returning to the track in competitive form this time in, Chris Waller-trained Hawkspur is arguably offered his best chance of success in 2014 this weekend, having received the ideal barrier 4 for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

While never leaving from barrier 4 in any of his 28 race starts so far, the Purrealist gelding has been most successful this time in from barrier 5; finishing third in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) from that ideal position on March 8th.

Charged with carrying a race-high 59kgs, Boban will be offered reasonable chance of jumping well from the slightly wide barrier 9.

Boban was the undeniable performer of the 2013 spring, securing a perfect five wins from as many starts, including two major Group 1 titles.

Having displayed a knack of overcoming mid-wide barrier, the Bernardini gelding strolled to victory in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) from barrier 10, repeating his efforts in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) just two weeks later from barrier 12.

Four-time Group 1 champion in 2013, It’s A Dundeel was arguably the biggest winner at Tuesday evening’s barrier draw, allocated the ideal inside gate for the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Amazingly the third time in only four appearances the High Chaparral entire will leave from barrier 1 this preparation, It’s A Dundeel finished second in the Chipping Norton first-up before again performing well in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on the two occasions prior to this weekend’s feature.

On the other side of the coin, winner of last weekend’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile, Sacred Falls will have to overcome the wide barrier 12 if to secure back-to-back victories this weekend.

A wet track specialist, trainer Chris Waller will have no issue in receiving barrier 12, having saddled the O’reilly entire to victory from barrier 13 last weekend.
