April 16th, 2014

Trainer Chris Waller is confident 2014 Doncaster Mile (1600m) champion Sacred Falls will line up for this weekend’s major Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) in prime condition, despite only one week’s turnaround.

Leading an incredible Waller-trained first-four in last weekend’s feature race on day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick, Sacred Falls will have to overcome the wide barrier 12 if to secure his first back-to-back victories since debuting with an incredible run of six straight competitive wins in 2012.

“He should be at his peak this week” Waller told TVN of Sacred Falls.

“He’s bounced through the Doncaster; I’m really looking forward to him running on Saturday.”

Returning to racing in typically competitive form in 2013, the O’reilly entire was unlucky when striking interference and fifth in both the Group 2 Sovereign Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Finishing in the wake of fellow Queen Elizabeth Stakes acceptor It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), Sacred Falls secured a second Group 1 victory in the 2013 edition of the Doncaster Mile; overcoming an early check to beat talented runner Pierro by a length.

Securing an impressive total of eight wins and two places from only eighteen competitive race starts to date, Sacred Falls has returned to the track in competitive form this preparation; unlucky to finish just outside the places in fourth in both the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) prior to last weekend’s back-to-back Doncaster triumph.

Confirmed to be partnered by Doncaster jockey Zac Purton once more, Sacred Falls is currently featured on the sixth line of betting for success in the $4 million 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at a particularly generous quote of $12.

Unlucky to finish second in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) last time out, Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House is currently offered as outright favourite at $3.50 odds, ahead of Ranvet champion Silent Achiever ($4.60), It’s A Dundeel ($5), Boban and Hawkspur; sharing the fourth line of betting at $8.50 odds.
