A particularly classy field of 12 has been confirmed to line up for the featured $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick this weekend, offering punters several good chances to place a winning bet.
Unlucky to be pipped on the line of the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) last time out, Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House is currently featured as outright $3.80 favourite in betting markets for success in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, ahead of market mover It’s A Dundeel ($4.40), Silent Achiever ($4.60) and Royal Descent ($8); currently the only other runner featured at odds of less-than $10.
Will Carlton House justify favouritism in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, or will one of his talented opponents find the line in the clear?
Royal Descent ($8)
A wet weather specialist, shown most recently when finishing an unlucky second to stable mate Sacred Falls in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) last weekend, Royal Descent offers punters incredible value for money at $8 odds, or $2.50 for a place. Securing four wins and six places from only 15 race starts to date, Royal Descent has returned to the track in consistent form this time in, finishing fourth amongst classy competition in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) first-up and fifth in the high-tempo Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) prior to the Doncaster Mile. Allocated the ideal barrier 5, the Redoute’s Choice mare will be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver and is a legitimate chance of winning this weekend.
Silent Achiever ($4.60)
Arguably carrying the best form of any entrant into the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, talented five-year-old Silent Achiever has returned to racing in incredible touch in 2014, winning the Retina Specialists Handicap (1500m) first-up before strolling home to win the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) in her homeland on March 8th. Crossing the ditch for a second attempt at the Australian Autumn Carnival, the O’reilly mare produced a memorable turn of foot to hunt down Carlton House and win the Ranvet Stakes first-up before repeating the dose in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) last time out. Allocated the central barrier 7, leading jockey Nash Rawiller has been confirmed to retain the ride on Silent Achiever in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
A three-time winner at the highest level of Australian racing, Boban has been confirmed to line up for his first tilt at a 2000 metres event in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and offers punters great value at $11, or $3.10 for a place. The standout performer of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, the Bernardini gelding claimed five impressive wins from as many starts, including both the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m). While yet to string together a consistent run of form over four starts this preparation, Boban strolled home to win the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) on March 8th and exhibits the class to feature in contention in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
