Murray Baker’s in-form Kiwi raider and track specialist It’s A Dundeel has moved to the top of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2014 odds ahead of the $4 million Easter Saturday showdown at Randwick Racecourse.

One of four Group 1s on the Sydney Cup Day program, this year’s Group 1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) has drawn a top class field of 12 gallopers.

Earlier in the week race favourite was the Gai Waterhouse-trained Carlton House, the Queen of England-owned import paying $3.80 to win their first Group 1 down under after a close second in the Ranvet Stakes over this distance at Rosehill last start.

The Street Cry six-year-old however has since eased right out to $4.20 as money comes in for some of their rivals in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds.

New favourite at a firming $4 is High Chaparral four-year-old It’s A Dundeel with the rails run from barrier one.

Punters could get the five time Group 1 champion at $4.40 earlier this week but they’re on the move with the form guide revealing some telling facts in their favour.

They’ve run top three in their trio of Group 1 starts this autumn, most recently running second to Silent Achiever in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) in the mud on April 5.

They’ll love coming to Randwick for the first time this season then, It’s A Dundeel boasting an outstanding record at the track with three wins and a second from their four starts here.

With a 50% win rate, the best place percentage (78%) and also plenty of nice form over the distance (6-2-2-1) it’s easy to see why they’re well backed to handle the drop down to 2000m and the wet track here.

Steady third favourite in Queen Elizabeth Stakes betting at $4.60 is then Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double winning mare Silent Achiever.

She’s won all four of her starts this season, including the Group 1 NZ Stakes back home before coming back down under and showing the locals how it’s done.

Silent Achiever hasn’t put a foot wrong this time in and defeated It’s A Dundeel, plus plenty of other Queen Elizabeth hopes, last time out.

How she handles dropping back in distance though will be key to her success after jockey Nash Rawiller declaring her a good Sydney Cup chance over the two miles before connections opted against testing her over the 3200m in the wet.

The last of the single figure chances at $8 is then Royal Descent who comes off a close second to their stable mate Sacred Falls ($12 to win the Queen Elizabeth this weekend) in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at the track last weekend.

Their trainer Chris Waller has won three of the past four editions of this race and trained the first four over the line in the Doncaster so is in red hot form.

He’s got a strangle hold over this race numbers wise too preparing not only known mudlark Royal Descent, 10 length winner of the Australian Oaks last autumn in the mud, and Sacred Falls for this but also Chipping Norton champ Boban ($11) and last year’s Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur ($12).
