Adelaide on Track for 2015 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

March 25th, 2015

While yet to appear on course competitively in 2015, leading jockey Hugh Bowman is confident Adelaide is on track for a successful tilt at the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships after partnering the entire in a strong piece of track work on Wednesday morning.

Yet to  finish outside the places over his eight start career so far, Adelaide more than announced his Australian racing arrival when debuting for an impressive win in the featured Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in late October.

Unable to make much of an impact over two Sydney barrier trials before being removed from the final field for last weekend’s George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Bowman was thrilled with the feel offered up by the Galileo stallion over the Rosehill Gardens course proper and is confident he is on track for the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

I have been doing most of his work with him,” Bowman told Sky Racing.

“He galloped between races with Royal Descent about three weeks ago, but it was the first time that I sat on him since his last trial and he feels to me that he has really sharpened up to be honest.

“This morning he zipped up the last 2 in sub 23 on the outside of the course proper and it feels to me that he has really sharpened up.

“The three times I have been on him prior to this morning he hasn’t shown me that he has a nice turn-of-foot, but this morning he really did and he ran through the line strongly.

“I think that he is going the right way for sure.

“You will have to see him at the races before you see the best of him because he is a laidback customer, a very idle animal and he just seems to do what he has to.”

Beginning his racing career under the guidance of leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien before being transferred to the care of Chris Waller for his 2015 campaign, Adelaide more than stamped his claims as a serious racing competitor in placing second in the Group 1 Belmont Derby (2011) and winning the Group 1 Secretariat Stakes (2011m) most notably leading into his Cox Plate triumph.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds, for which Adelaide can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $9 for success; sharing the third line of betting with Criterion, Hartnell and Japanese raider Tosen Stardom.
